WASHINGTON, D.C./NEW YORK -- The Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) and the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) announced today the panelists for a 2012 Radio Show event titled "Leadership Breakfast: Preserving Radio's Value in a Changing World," presented by Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP. The event will be held Thursday, September 20, 7:30-9:15 a.m. at the Hilton Anatole Dallas with a full breakfast provided courtesy of Media Services Group.
The Leadership Breakfast will revolve around a panel discussion with Lew Dickey, CEO of Cumulus Media; Jeff Smulyan, chairman of the board of Emmis Communications Corporation; Joe Schwartz, president and CEO of Cherry Creek Radio; and José Valle, president of Univision Radio. Marci Ryvicker, a managing director with Wells Fargo Securities, LLC, will provide opening remarks.
The panel will be moderated by Lew Paper, a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP.
Dickey co-founded Cumulus Media in 1997 and became CEO in 2000. Cumulus now manages more than 350 radio stations throughout the country, the second largest number of radio stations for a single U.S. broadcasting company.
Smulyan serves as chairman of the board of Emmis Communications Corporation, a radio and magazine publishing company that operates in twelve U.S. markets and Slovakia and Bulgaria. In 2000, he was honored with NAB's National Radio Award and as Radio Ink's "Radio Executive of the Year."
Schwartz is president and CEO of small market radio company Cherry Creek Radio, which operates 45 stations in California, Arizona, Washington, Montana, North Dakota, Texas, Colorado, New York and Utah. Prior to Cherry Creek Radio, he worked in a variety of organizations, from public companies CBS, Emmis and Saga to private companies like Capitol Broadcasting and Golden East Broadcasting.
Valle, as president of Univision Radio, oversees the expanding portfolio of the leading Spanish-language broadcaster in the U.S. Univision Radio currently owns and operates 70 radio stations in 16 of the top U.S. Hispanic markets and five stations in Puerto Rico. He was previously the president and general manager of Telemundo's flagship station KVEA and oversaw operations for KWHY, an independent Spanish-language station in Los Angeles.
Ryvicker joined Wachovia Securities (now Wells Fargo Securities, LLC) as an equity analyst in June 2002. As managing director, Senior Equity analyst, she continues to monitor developments in broadcasting as well as other media industries. Ryvicker began her career as a certified public accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLC. She earned her MBA from Harvard Business School and holds a BS in economics with a concentration in accounting from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Paper is with the Pillsbury office in Washington, DC and a part of the firm's communications practice. He previously served as Associate General Counsel at the FCC and Legislative Counsel to United States Senator Gaylord Nelson.
